Area Activities From Home

Your days may be long with work at home- homeschooling- cooking- tracking down food/yeast/pork/toilet tissue, or your days may be empty as you run out of things to do (only so may closets to clean out & Facebook posts to read). During this unique time, this great community is providing some unique “at home” activities. Whether you use some of this for homeschooling, relaxing or posting to your friends, hope you enjoy!

North Carolina is home to some fantastic musical talent, with names like James Taylor, J. Cole, the Avett Brothers, Ben Folds and more. Some of this talent will be on display starting this Friday for “Under One Roof” live streamed benefit concert. The concert will run Friday, April 24 from 8 pm to 9 pm and continue Saturday and Sunday evening at the same time. The concert has been organized by The North Carolina Arts Council, Come Hear NC, and Charlotte-based publication, CLTure. NC musicians Ben Folds, Tift Merrit, Chatham County Line, 9th Wonder and more will bring a wide variety of genres directly to your computer or other device.

Under One Roof will broadcast live on the CLTure Twitch channel and official Facebook event page. The event is free to watch and viewers are encouraged to donate. All proceeds from the event will be sent to non-profit arts organizations in NC that have established relief funds for artists during the pandemic. The North Carolina Museum of Art is also putting up activities and informational resources every Friday. They share a visitor favorite work of art weekly and include “art-making, film, music, and educational recommendations that it inspires. You’ll enjoy artist interviews, mindfulness activities, and more, for all ages.” Activities include everything from lectures on art, to popular references to meditation activities. Follow this link to check out the past month’s activities. They also have a collection of downloadable Zoom meeting backgrounds if you really want to impress (and showoff your cultured side) to your friends and coworkers.
