Pops in the Park Festival with the Durham Symphony

“Enjoy an afternoon of outdoor classical music with The Durham Symphony in Downtown Hillsborough.” A great event for Hillsborough residents or a great reason to go visit the picturesque and charming town.

 

Apex PeakFest

Where: Downtown Apex

When: Saturday, May 4, 9 am – 5 pm

Downtown Apex’s main thoroughfare, Salem Street, closes down to cars and opens up for the community. PeakFest is all about family, friends and fun. There will be all sorts of activities, musical performances, arts and crafts, vendors, etc..

The Doughman Quadrathlon

Where: Starts on 9th Street, Durham

When: Saturday, May 5

According to Discoverdurham.com “the Doughman is a team relay quadrathlon combining eating with a traditional triathlon. Local and out-of-state participants compete to raise money for community organizations.” The event often involves wacky costumes and delicious local food as its 5 legs circle through Durham.

Where: Carrboro Recreation & Parks

When: Sunday, May 5, 1 – 5 pm

Come out and celebrate Carrboro! The event will feature stories, photos, poetry, live music, dancing, field games, crafts, food vendors and much more. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket.

Artsplosure

Where: Downtown Raleigh

When: Saturday, Sunday, May 18, 19

Arsplosure is THE arts festival in Raleigh. It’s the city’s long-running, yearly eruption of artistic creativity and energy, centered around Fayetteville Street. There will be free musical performances by local, national and international artists. There will also be over 170 visual arts and crafts exhibits, interactive art installations, all sorts of performers and much more.

Bimbé Cultural Arts Festival

Where: Rock Quarry Park, Durham

When: Saturday, May 18, 12 – 8 pm

In its 50th year, the Bimbé Cultural Art Festival “is a celebration of African and African American history, culture, arts, and traditions.” There will be live music by local groups, arts and crafts, delicious ethnic food, community resources and more.

Where: NC State Fairgrounds, Raleigh

When: Friday-Sunday, May 17-19

The event will have all sorts of local vendors, including delicious food and drinks. There will be activities representing the state’s heritage and history as well as arts vendors, exhibits and demonstrations. There will also be a carnival filled with fun rides for all ages!
